Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! Also, be sure to check out my other blogs www.sydneytable.com and http://www.orble.com/total-randomness/ PLEASE NOTE: My scoring of films is now based on an "Out of 10" score. Yes Man ($10-)

I am a massive Jim Carrey fan, I recently bought all five seasons of the TV show James Carrey commenced acting in during the 90's. In Living Color was written and produced by the entire Wayans family (and Carrey) who faired well in certain 90's films. Damon did the best with a part opposite Bruce Willis in The Last Boy Scout and Marlan while only starring in 2 whole episodes became quite famous as the dope fiend in the Scary Movies. When me and my friends would finish work at 10pm at night we would crowd into my nan's place, while she slept, and watch In Living Color while smoking many bongs and drinking many beers. It only went for about half an hour and had the ability to make you cry with laughter in every episode. My friends and I all worked in a cinema and we all made bets that James aka Jim Carrey would make it big in Hollywood - and I totally wish I was a casting agent because as you know he made it HUGE!

Jim Carrey returns to his style with this romantic comedy in the same style as the Carrey classic Liar Liar. Critics have unfairly dubbed Yes Man a shameless remake of Carrey's earlier hit Liar Liar, maybe because both are about a man constrained to change his personality. In Liar Liar, a sleazebag lawyer is cursed to tell the truth for a whole day, resulting in lots of the trademark Carrey physical comedy as the lawyer's body rebels against his brain. In Yes Man, Carrey voluntarily decides to say "yes" to life and shake off the shy withdrawn life that has imprisoned him after divorce. There is a lot less physical performance by Carrey in this one, but with him aging he can't keep doing contortionist comedy his whole life and this romcom character suits him well. After a few stints in more serious features like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Number 23, Carrey seems right at home playing Carl, a divorcé who starts out the film depressed and withdrawn, scared of taking a risk. Pressured by his best friend, Peter (Bradley Cooper), to get his act together or be stuck with a lonely life, Carl attends a New Age self-help seminar intended to change "no men" like Carl into "yes men" willing to meet life's challenges with gusto. Carl is reluctant at first, but finds the seminar to be ultimately life-changing when he's coerced into giving the "say yes" attitude a try. As the first opportunity to say yes presents itself, Carl utters the three-letter word, setting the stage for a domino effect of good rewards, and giving Carrey a platform to show off his comic genius. But over time Carl realizes that saying yes to everything indiscriminately can reap results as complicated and messy as his life had become when saying "no" was his norm. The always-quirky and drastically gorgeous Zooey Deschanel adds her signature charm as Carl's love interest, Allison. An unlikely match at first glance, the pair actually develop great chemistry as the story progresses, the actors playing off each other's different styles of humor.

Jim is great, Zooey is fabulous and their chemistry is awesome. Rhys Darby is hysterical as Carl's crazy boss Norman and Bradley Cooper is great and very much improved from his days as Jennifer Garner's flatmate in Alias. I also have to add he is looking damn fine and way more hunkier than dorky previous character.

Trivia (thanks to IMDB):
1) Jim Carrey performed his own bungee jump stunts.
2) Jim Carrey declined an upfront salary for this film. Instead he will be paid a percentage of the film's profits.
3) Jack Black was originally considered for the lead role.
4) Based on a biographical book written by Danny Wallace, a British author, producer, and journalist who spent six months answering "yes" to any given question or proposal and recording the results.
5) The day before Zooey Deschanel had to get on the scooter for the first time, her stunt double fell off and shattered her hip. Zooey was told that it would take the stunt woman about nine months to recover, so she was asked to get on the bike for the shot herself.
6) Cameo: [Danny Wallace] The writer of the book upon which the film is based can be seen sitting at the bar during the wedding shower.
7) Even though one of the movie's main posters has Jim Carrey running through a field of flowers gracefully, he does not run through a field of flowers once throughout the film.
8) When Jim Carrey is in blockbuster the second time around, he picks up The Cable Guy (1996), a movie he stars in, to rent.
9) There are multiple references to Harry Potter in the film. David Heyman, one of the film's producers, also produces the Harry Potter films.
10) While Carl is in the video store you can see another Jim Carrey movie, The Number 23 (2007), playing out of focus in the background.
11) Stars Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel share the same birthday, January 17. However, Carrey was born in 1962 and Deschanel in 1980 making him exactly eighteen years older than her.
12) In Norm's office, we see posters for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) and The Goonies (1985). Both movies featured Chris Columbus directing or writing. Footage from the first two "Harry Potter" films is also shown during the party scene.

While comedic actors like Eddie Murphy, Mike Meyers and Adam Sandler seem to be going out of style and have become stranded by their limited comedy I do find that Jim Carrey has what it takes to move beyond ths barrier and stay on as a long term succesful comedic actor. Plus if you ad his dramatic acting success you know he is safe. While this won't be the best film you will see all year, if you are a Jim Carrey fan or like a good comedy romance then this is worth putting on your list of things to see. Worth $10-
